DEFINITIONS

For the purposes of these Terms, the following definitions apply:

1. AI-POWERED CONVERSATION FEATURES

This section governs your use of Lingro's AI-powered language practice tools, including text and voice conversation bots ("AI Conversation Features"). Please read it carefully.

1.1 Technology and Third-Party Providers

The AI Conversation Features are built using:

Your use of the AI Conversation Features is subject not only to these Terms but also to the acceptable use policies of Anthropic and ElevenLabs. By using these features, you agree not to engage in any conduct that would violate those policies.

1.2 Purpose and Limitations of AI Features

The AI Conversation Features are designed exclusively for language learning practice in educational contexts. They are intended to simulate realistic conversational scenarios, provide corrective feedback, and support vocabulary and grammar acquisition.

The AI Conversation Features:

Lingro continuously works to configure and fine-tune AI prompts and guardrails to ensure age-appropriate, educationally appropriate outputs. However, no AI system is perfect, and Instructors are encouraged to monitor student use and report unexpected outputs to hello@lingrolearning.com.

1.3 Logging and Storage of Conversations

AI conversation sessions — including both text inputs and voice interactions — are logged and stored by Lingro. This storage serves the following purposes:

Institutions may request access to, or deletion of, conversation logs in the same manner as other Student Data.

1.4 Use of Conversation Data to Improve the Services

Lingro may use data derived from AI conversation sessions to improve the quality, safety, and educational effectiveness of the Services. Any such use is subject to the following restrictions:

1.5 Student Conduct in AI Conversations

Students agree not to:

Violations may result in suspension of access to AI Conversation Features, and in serious cases, suspension or termination of the student's account.

1.6 No Student Reliance on AI Accuracy

Language learning AI can make grammatical errors, produce culturally inappropriate phrasing, or reflect biases present in underlying training data. Students should approach AI-generated feedback critically and consult their Instructor with questions about correctness or appropriateness.

2. VOICE FEATURES AND ELEVENLABS

2.1 Voice Synthesis

Certain AI Conversation Features include synthesized voice output generated by ElevenLabs technology. These voices are algorithmically generated and do not represent any real person. No voice biometric data belonging to any User is collected for voice synthesis purposes.

2.2 Student Voice Input

Where voice input is enabled, Students' spoken audio is transmitted to Lingro's servers and processed for the purposes described in Section 1.3. Audio data is treated as Student Data and is subject to the same protections.

Audio recordings of students are subject to applicable state laws governing biometric or audio data (including, where applicable, the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and equivalent laws). Institutions operating in jurisdictions with such laws are responsible for ensuring that appropriate consents have been obtained prior to enabling voice features for their students.

2.3 Opting Out of Voice Features

Students can opt out of voice features at any time and request a text-only version. Students who have concerns about voice data collection should raise them with their Instructor or Institution before using voice-enabled features.
